Artist Statement:
This collection of work focuses on the Protests against police brutality and systemic racism that have taken place in Anthony Geathers’ hometown of the Bedford Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn, NY. Being a long time native of Bed-Stuy, Anthony decided that instead of going to other boroughs in NYC, it would be best to document his own backyard. Brooklyn, NY, mainly black neighborhoods in Brooklyn, have always had roots in fighting for Black liberation since the 1970s, so Anthony wanted to photograph his own hometown continuing the fight in 2020.
